REVIEW: Dragonoak: The Complete History of Kastelir by Sam Farren

Dragonoak 1 cover
"After being exiled to the farmland around her village, Rowan Northwood takes the only chance at freedom she might ever get: she runs away with a passing Knight and doesn't look back. The woman cares nothing for Rowan's company, yet she’s the first person who isn’t repulsed by the powers that burn within her.

Rowan soon learns that the scope of their journey is more than a desperate grasp at adventure. She breaks away from the weighty judgement of her village and has no choice but to abandon her Kingdom altogether. Sir Ightham's past takes them to Kastelir, a young country draped in the shadow of its long-dead Queen: a woman who was all tusks and claws and great, spiralling horns.

Hiding her necromancy is no longer Rowan's greatest challenge, and what hounds them across Kingdoms and through mountains is already fifteen-hundred years in the making."
The Complete History of Kastelir is first part of Dragonoak, a fantasy trilogy by Sam Farren who I believe is first time author at this point. Book is from 2015 and other parts, The Sky Beneath The Sun (2015) and Gall and Wormwood (2017), are out as well. Whole trilogy is available in both paperback and eBook. Books are not overwhelmingly long this first part being little under 400 pages, next pretty near 450 and last one running for 630 pages.

We see world trough eyes of Rowan Northwood young woman from small village who is given a wide berth by said villagers but readers are not really told why for some time. Quick check on description and its solved in this case. Book uses this type of story telling, not telling or explaining things from start but given nuggets of info every now and then. I personally am okay with this style but there are people who really despise withholding or leaving reader to the dark.

Combination of LGBT and fantasy is not the most common one or it's main focus is romance Harlequin or in LGBT case Bold Stroke Books style.

And even more that our main character, person in main focus is one! Now days there is books where our fellowships will meet one or one of the "lesser" character is one.
