REVIEW: The Gossamer Globe by Abbie Evans
I would call Abbie Evans "The Gossamer Globe" a political fantasy swashbuckler thriller on land of Zatoria. Book takes place after major political change and we follow Lucia Straw's working to make this new world work. Book tries to balance humor and serious and it makes OK work with it but arguing of endless cheese gets little meh in the end (at least its brie).Political side is pretty shallow and we do not really see or hear much of Zatoria citizens even tho they just made history! Book keeps our experience really centered to small group of people and we still not getting really know people even in this group. You get some fragments to what world is like but not clear picture what it really is.
Gossamer Globe is to my understanding Zatorian version of internet and it is big thing through the book but it makes me asking so many questions as well. "Why Zatorians not using it to communicate with one another like they did before Queen took them away before?" is my biggest one still.
“Well, the thing that really properly motivated us,” said Varielle, “was taking the porn away. You can’t take people’s porn from them and expect them not to rebel.”
The Gossamer Globe is yet another book where is so wish for ½ stars in goodreads (and Amazon). This was 3½ star to me but not feeling like it should get 4 so have to drop it to 3.
I feel that if you get spoiled with big twist of the book it do somewhat lessens your reading. There are more parts of this series but to me this was perfect as it was or it should have totally different cast/ group of people. I'm not really invested to characters and description of book 2 not interest me at all.
Overall book was fine little shallow but for the price (free for Kindle) its worth the time to read it. Book ain't overly long, 196 pages so very possible to read in one afternoon if you are speedier reader.
!SPOILERS!
Thing that I really did not get that Zatoria citizens did not communicate to each other that how Sheppardor party had won? Book takes place in a month (?) and it was 60% vs 15% of votes? Really no one asked questions like they did when former Queen did allow Gossamers before? It just rubbed me really wrong after finishing the book.
Main interesting point of book to me was Lucias self-deny and everything that followed it "It was not my fault! I did nothing wrong, or atleast not big". This makes my interest to part 2 to follow Kailani and saving Ada non existing. Ada was just one more pawn that was romantic interest to Lucia and Kailani, well later ones end dating but yeah.
Okey twisted single book but not foundation to series in my eyes.
!END OF SPOILERS!
